Billing FAQs

A: A telehealth visit is conducted via a computer, tablet, or smartphone. This type of visit allows your healthcare provider to care for you without an in-person office visit. A telehealth visit is still an appointment that will be billed to your insurance.

A: Providers from DHC do not base telehealth visits on time. Our physicians select the level of outpatient evaluation and management which is based on medical decision making.

A: A telehealth appointment is in fact a visit that is billed as such. Instead of seeing the provider in person, you are having your visit virtually. The physician is still providing care.
A: Responsibility for paying medical bills is apportioned between the patient receiving care and their insurance provider. Most insurance carriers require the patient/policyholder to pay a co-pay, co-insurance, out-of-pocket cost, and a deductible. If you receive a bill, it simply means that your policy has one or more of the above specifications. Especially if your deductible has not been met. Please always reference your explanation of benefits that is provided by your insurance career.
A: You should contact your insurance carrier to ask about the cost you may incur. The provider does not have the exact amount you will be billed, again you must factor in if you have a copay, co-insurance, out-of-pocket cost, or a deductible. The amount that you will incur is based on different variables and the most accurate answer will be from your insurance carrier.
A: A Screening Colonoscopy is a service performed on an asymptomatic (a person affected by a condition but producing or showing no symptoms of it) person for the purpose of testing for the presence of colorectal cancer or colorectal polyps. Whether a polyp or cancer is ultimately found does not change the screening intent of that procedure. Depending on the patient’s insurance carrier this type of procedure is covered once a year, every 5 years, or every 10 years.
A: A “screening” colonoscopy is often recommended starting at age 45. Most health insurance companies cover colorectal cancer screening starting at age 45.
A: A “diagnostic” colonoscopy is a colonoscopy that is done to investigate abnormal symptoms, tests, prior conditions, or family history. A diagnostic colonoscopy may include out-of-pocket costs for patients (such as co-pays or deductibles), depending on your insurance plan.

A: Digestive Healthcare Center and Central Jersey Ambulatory Surgical Center are separate entities. Anesthesia, Pathology, the Facility, and the physician conducting the procedure all bill for the services rendered.

A: Since the Public Health Emergency has ended insurance carriers are no longer covering audio visits. They are preferring for patients to either have an in-person or telehealth visit with their provider.

What Our Patients Are Saying

Learn more about our patients’ experiences at Digestive Healthcare Center.

Dr Greaves is an amazing Dr and always treats me with kindness. I wish the office staff would leave messages when they call explaining what they need. I recently scheduled a routine MRI for a precancerous pancreatic cyst and we went back and forth leaving messages before I was told that their office would get pre approval for this test for the Radiology group. When I called BCBS to get approval( because the Radiology group said I had to do it) I didn't have the procedure codes. DHC kept calling me during my work hours and I couldn't answer, but wouldn't say what they were calling about. I'd call back on my lunch break and get a recording saying to leave my information and they would call me back. Frustrating and time consuming. DHC actually got the pre-approval for my procedure with a few days to spare.Pleased with the office overall, I just want to speak to one person and going back and forth with different staff members is a waste of time for all involved. Please leave messages regarding why you're calling and an extension to reach that person! Thank you Dr Greaves and staff! I know you all work hard!

My second colonoscopy with Dr. Gingold and just like the first time, I had a great experience and the staff were great!Setting my appointment, getting the instructions on how to prep and an email with very detailed instructions. I was greeted promptly and sat with the intake coordinator who reviewed everything with me. My information was checked about twice, which was great! The nurses were lovely who met me and I have to thank thank the Anesthesiologist who gave me the best sleep in a long long time LOL; he did great! Next up, Dr. Gingold and his procedure nurse and assitant were both kind, gentle and got me comfortable.Next thing I knew I was in recovery with the nurse who was kind, helpful. Dr. Gingold was right there, discussed my procedure and answered my questions; he has a great bedside manner.I had amazingly courteous, thorough and professional care and would definitely recommend DHC!

Contrary to some of the previous reviews, I found the staff to be pleasant, prompt and professional. Ashley was especially pleasant as she asked me some questions in preparation to see Dr Accurso. The doctor was very knowledgeable and answered my questions after the exam. Called back to the office the week after my visit and by chance was connected to Ashley who answered my question promptly. Thank you, Dan

I had my colonoscopy today, March 7, 2022. From the moment I walked in, I was treated very well. The RNS were so nice, courteous and helpful. Id like to recognize 2 RN'S at the Hillsborough office, RN Casey and RN Lilly. They explained everything to me, asked many questions, asthey should and made me feel very comfortable. My doctor was Dr Accurso. He was awesome. I highly recommend this location when planning and prepping for your colonoscopy. Thank you!!❤

My first colonoscopy and the staff were greatFirst nurse interaction was with Chelsea. She was really friendly and patient with this patient (I'm high maintenance being a bit of a fainter) - I felt bad for how much she had to pamper me as she prepped meNext was the anesthesiologist who I had a nice chat with before zonking out - I think I discussed the situation in Ukraine, but who knowsFinally the nurse who was with me when I woke up - another delightful person who took care of me as I came back to the world - don't recall her name because I was still a bit woozyBottom line (pun intended): I recommend 100%

I had a positive experience at DHC. They were very responsive to my questions and phone calls and always got back to me quickly, in regards to the prep, the procedure, anesthesia, billing, results.. They were on top of everything. I also got lucky the day of my procedure they were able to move my start time up. Most importantly, Dr. Gingold is a thorough, highly skilled, excellent surgeon. I very much appreciate everything he and DHC did for me. Thank you.

At age 52, just retired as a police supervisor almost 27 years, running a consulting company, I had to take the next step of making sure important aspects of my health are okay. My first time having a colonoscopy, first time going under the gas, leaves some nerves flowing big time. This entire staff all the way up to Dr. Greaves made the procedure very assuring, positive, and relaxed. I want to thank all of you for the great job in taking care of your patients!
