Are you a Woman with GI issues? Learn the benefits of specific, focused care.
How Are Female Gastroenterology Needs Addressed?
Digestive Healthcare Center has opened a new Women’s Wellness Center (WWC). Staffed by female gastroenterologists, the center is designed to treat the special needs of female patients. “We are here for women who want to deal with their GI issues one-on-one with another woman. We understand the needs of women both physically and emotionally, and we also take into account their lifestyles, schedules and privacy,” says Dr. Claudia Barghash, who heads the WWC accompanied by with Dr. Kristen Lee.
How Do You Accommodate A Woman’s Lifestyle?
DHC’s Women’s Wellness Center recognizes your busy schedule, and has developed a unique program of Walk-In Wednesdays. Studies confirm that timely access is important for achieving positive medical outcomes. We believe that the walk-in sessions allow for a casual atmosphere that addresses the psychological benefits that may assist patients who decide to spontaneously make the right choice for their health.
What is Treated at the Women’s Wellness Center?
Our services include well care, in addition to screening such as colonoscopy, and diagnosis and treatment for all digestive concerns, conditions or diseases. In addition to common conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease and acid reflux, frequent women’s issues addressed at the WWC also include bloating, constipation and diarrhea. According to Dr. Kristen Lee of the Center, “I take pride in hearing from patients and family members how much more comfortable they feel when discussing their GI issues with another woman.”
Why is It Important to Focus on Women’s Gastroenterology Care?
According to studies, women are less likely than men to undergo colorectal cancer (CRC) screening, such as getting a colonoscopy. This disparity is even more prevalent case for both African American and Hispanic women, despite the fact that colorectal cancer represents the third most common cancer diagnosed and a major cause of cancer-related deaths in women. With a targeted focus on women, and unique care by female physicians, we address this gap and hope to make an impact in the community.
Are There Other Special Services the WWC Provides?
In addition to the cancer prevention screening and treatment for GI conditions, services such as colonics (colon cleansing) are also available. A colonic is the infusion of water into the rectum to cleanse and flush out the colon. Our specialists use the most innovative diagnostic tools available in the area to perform a colonic, also called colonic hydrotherapy or colon irrigation.
