Dr. Cory Vergilio is double board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in gastroenterology and internal medicine. He specializes in biliary therapeutics, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopy, colonoscopy, and capsules.
He completed his fellowship training and residency in gastroenterology and internal medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) – New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ. Additionally, he received post-fellowship training in advanced therapeutic biliary endoscopy at Aarhus University in Denmark. Dr. Vergilio earned his medical degree from UMDNJ and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Rutgers University.
Before joining Digestive Healthcare Center, Dr. Vergilio was in private practice for 20 years. He is a former vice president of the medical staff at Somerset Medical Center and a former assistant clinical professor of gastroenterology and internal medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.
Dr. Vergilio is a recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award and has a medical philosophy inspired by an experience with a patient early in his career: “One of my first patients was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer but was able to live a year beyond her goal and celebrate not one but two Christmas holidays. Her courage and resiliency touched and inspired me and have stayed with me throughout the years.”
