How Does Telemedicine Work?

On how many occasions have you taken time out of your day to drive to the doctor’s office and wait in the waiting room, just to see your doctor for only a few minutes? At Digestive Healthcare Center, we recognize how valuable your time is. We are proud to offer telehealth electronic doctor’s visits to our patients, a service that allows you to speak with one of our specialists through the use of video-conferencing. This service allows us to improve our accessibility for our patients – all you need to do is call our office to set up an appointment! Keep reading to learn more about how this convenient service works.

When Should You Use Telemedicine?

Telemedicine appointments are best suited for patients who need to see a doctor for a quick treatment, request, or question. This can include a digestive health question, a follow-up appointment, a prescription refill, or urgent treatment for a minor medical issue. In most cases, talking to your doctor about your symptoms and medical history ends up being 90% of your appointment, so telemedicine gives you the opportunity to see a doctor in your own home, on your own time. Of course, certain conditions would require a physical examination – if you schedule an telemedicine visit and your doctor needs to see you in person, you can schedule an appointment at one of our offices as a next step. Telemedicine should not be used in the case of a medical emergency.

Schedule a Telemedicine Appointment in NJ

The first step to scheduling a telemedicine visit with one of the doctors at Digestive Healthcare Center is to simply call our office. We will take care of the rest! Telemedicine appointments can also be used by new patients. When you call our office to set up a telemedicine appointment, you will need to let the office know if you have updated insurance information and make sure that all of your patient forms are up to date. You will also need a smartphone, tablet, or computer that has a camera and a microphone. If you have any recent lab work or tests performed, please make sure they are sent to our office via fax before your appointment.

Connect With Your Doctor

During your telemedicine visit, you’ll be connected with your doctor via video chat. You’ll then be able to talk with your doctor, ask any questions you may have, and speak to them about the reason for your appointment. If needed, they can refill your prescription, and it will be sent electronically to your pharmacy to be picked up at your convenience. As we are still a doctor’s office when appointments are held virtually, we ask that you give us a call if you think you will be late for your appointment.

Take Charge of Your Digestive Health

With telemedicine, you’ll be able to see one of our doctors and ask any questions you have without ever leaving your home. We are thrilled to offer this service because staying on top of your digestive health is very important for your overall health and daily comfort. Gastroenterological conditions can cause a high level of discomfort and disrupt your daily life, so getting prompt treatment is the best way to consistently take care of yourself. Telehealth makes our doctors even more accessible to those who have difficulty leaving their homes or simply can’t find the time to come see us in person.
